TBH, in the beginning of my SMAP-ventures I had a really strong love-hate relationship with the guy. Which really didn't make any sense at the time since I had just finished watching Mr. Brain and being all 'so THIS is what the Kimura Takuya I've heard all about for nearly half my life is like' and was immediately interested a few weeks before. But I do know that it had a lot to do with how ridiculously good-looking he was and for some strange reason, it bothered me a lot, lol. Partly because I was very much sexually frustrated whenever he was on the screen and I usually didn't go for the inherently handsome ones and liked them awkward or rugged or just smth I could obviously point out as some sort of flaw. Seeing perfection or something close to it in a person isn't one of my strong suits. 8D;  

So that went on for a few months, LOL.

I don't remember when exactly it was and I can't pinpoint the exact moment it happened, but gradually, I'd gotten a better sense of Kim and my unjustifiable hate was replaced with pure-pure adoration. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT the gap between his sexy side and dorky side played The Hugest Role in showing me the light. In spite of how flippin' sexy he is and how he never seems to have an off switch for the thing, when he reverts into his more real self I suppose and demonstrates how much of a dork he actually is, it just makes me want to bawww and claw at my breast wishing I could hold him against it. 

Speaking of which, his laugh gets its own paragraph. It is BY A MILE one of the greatest things to have blessed our Earth and I can confidently say this as a person whose bias isn't even Kim. He's not even in my top 3, which says smth, but not actually because the space between my love for each member is barely there as it is, but treat it like its big all the same for this instance. |D He laughs like a 12 yo whose just caught his first fish I think I stole that from a fic I haven't finished and it is just SO endearing and adorable and to think the sexgod would laugh like such a dork. It's glorious. ♥

It's also very nice and makes him more attractive to me on a whole that he's far from perfect. I mean, sure, I joke around and call them flaw-free, but they're not even close except for tsuyopon because I can't find fault with him ever. He's too stubborn for his own good sometimes and is the sorest of losers and sometimes doesn't mention these things when he's asked his weak points, lol, but it's those subtleties about him, the parts that stick out whether they're good or bad and that combine with his other parts like his irrevocable charm and squirrel teeth and dancing skills among a shit load of other things that make him the incredibly interesting person that he is. And omg, this is relatively coherent. Go figure.

I could probably type another few hundred words going on about how Karei Naru is my favourite drama ever or how awesome I think it is that he's married with kids or the brotherly role he plays in SMAP that's sweet but I won't. This is too long as it is, ahaha, and nobody reads these and I need to practice self-restraint anyway. 8|b

tl;dr: Happy 39, you dork. You're not flawless but perfect the way you are all the same. Thanks for being the person you are and letting us in on some of that. Now go be 40 already so you can stun people some more. <33

I met him when I was only 4 or 5 so I think I'll always have this image of "scary older brother" or "the guy that if I asked 'would you marry me sir?' he would answer 'when you get older, sweetie', but no matter how many birthdays I pass by, his answer will be the same" (LMAO) XD It's complicated to explain.

But there was a time I did think he was "perfect", though I really REFUSE to use this word for anything/anybody :P I guess it's the Kimura magic *wth* lol

I adore your birthday tributes! And your icons - fantastic as usual. I took several (including some from your previous Kimura HBD post, as you can see). My favorite has to be #16, but I'm not sure which to use yet. As a new fan, it's a bit of a task (though one done with love) to experience and understand - as much as a fan can - all the sides of his personality, and also to compartmentalize those facets into an icon that has to jockey for space with all my other loves . Should I chose sexy Kim? Dorky Kim? Contemplative Kim? Older or younger? I have settled on a sexy/dorky combo, for the time being. XD

I can relate to your story. Since my induction into the JE fandom in 2007, I have heard his name and seen his face a kabillion or two times. Maybe three years ago, I decided to watch Long Vacation, just to see what all the kids were fussing about. Though I agreed that he was absolutely gorgeous, I assumed, for reason, that his personality was just like his character's, which for me was not a positive thing. For three years or so, I carried this prejudice that he was aloof, reserved, and maybe a bit cold, and probably would not subject himself to anything that would make him look like an idiot. BOY was I wrong, and wonderfully so. In one of the very first SMAP videos I saw, in probably August of this year, he was open and friendly and laughing that laugh. I have since enjoyed seeing the range of his abilities/personality, including especially those that don't contribute to his cool/sexy image. He's not my ichiban , I'm coming to love him all the same.

A good birthday entry! I can't type this kind of things that long... My first Johhny to be exact. Long Vacation. the first drama that introduce me to this guy... Very long ago... When was it? i was in school... primary school... 96? 97? I don't quite remember but yeah that's the first drama of him that I ever watch on my local TV... Though i like him more in Hero *remembered that I used to quarrel with my mom about the TV channel coz i wanna watch that drama but my mom wanna watch hindi movie... XD*... and his latest drama that I watch, Mr. Brain and movie, Space Battleship Yamato. I like him as an actor... Though I don't know much about him & SMAP as idol... Any of his song that you could recommend? :D Anyway, Happy Birthday Kimura Takuya.

When I first discovered Kimura, it was in PRIDE and he wasn't beautiful there ... but he had something about him ... charisma for sure, oozing sexiness despite that weirdo hair and his rabbit teeth but with spades of talent and I was flabberghasted My brain going: "ohhhh-kay, he isn't my usual long haired beautiful guy but what the heck - shouldn't tastes alter over age?!"
Colour me surprised when Kimura turned out to be just that ... mostly long-haired & beautiful and a November child like me to boot :)

I so totally agree with the sexy, hot yet dorky Kimura and his oh so unique easily identified innocent laughter. I'm really a sucker when it comes to these.

there was a lot of things i wanted to say here, because i read these things, you know, and you mentioned a lot of stuff i can relate to, but i don't even know where to start [and then i never know when to end, heh].

the icons are gorgeous, particularly 3 & 8 [one of my favourite pictures], 5 is love, lol 11 &heart;, then 14-17, 23, 24, 26, 30 is one of the most beautiful moments ever, 31 does things to me that i shouldn't mention, i've made myself an icon of the pic that is 35 that was supposed to be my default icon because asdfghjk but then i forgot about it lol but mine was uglier, and 36 ohgod.
