wondering out loud

So this is an idea that's been bothering me for a while [Poll #1749579]

Uhhh, that's all? :*
/ends this with some 2TOP

This is either pure coincidence or you're reading my mind. I'm going with the latter.

I'm terrified by all those things too. I guess I'm vainly praying that this'll lure some ppl out, although I shouldn't rely on that completely. Being able to get the idea out to ppl outside of the fandom would be good too, because of the interest that might be there but ultimately, idk.

2Tops is overwhelmingly popular...
Yeaaah. Do you think making it so that the fics had to fundamentally be about the group but could involve pairings/etcetc, but should essentially focus on the group, make any difference? Since it's SMAP's 20th, not, yanno, 2TOP's. xDD

Honestly? Thank god for all you guys being awesome and humouring me and talking about this, because I nearly went with impulse and straight out made it. But doing this is so much better. &hearts

/idk if this comment went anywhere, sorry about that

Eavesdropping on another thread but I am totally liking this idea of a fic fest! Would it still be a contest, though? And how would that work?

[identity profile] dictionarysays.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yanno'... I don't know. |D;

There's still a lot of things to work out, but, I guess it could still work as a contest somehow? Maybe, at the end of each assignment, there's a poll and we could all possibly vote? But eeeh, if we go with the idea of a fic fest, it's probably not exactly necessary, is it? I can only speak for myself, and personally, I think fic fest without the contest aspect would be just as fun. xD

[identity profile] tsuristyle.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Same here, to be honest, a fic fest without a contest sounds more fun to me XD Also less intimidating for potential writers, and probably easier for the management, too! But whatever it turns out to be, I'll definitely write for it no matter what :Db

[identity profile] dictionarysays.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Totally with you there on all points! I think we most definitely have a clearer image of what'll work, so if we keep this up, I think things will happen. 8D And ooh, you'll write for it? Yes. &hearts

Also, was just suddenly reminded (idkw, ahaha), but in the fic meme, were you the one who posted the NakaTsu prompts and the CM AU one too? I've ALWAYS thought it was you and thought they were really good and really wanted to write them. AND IF IT WASN'T YOU? THIS NEVER HAPPENED. /slinks off

[identity profile] tsuristyle.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! Lookin' forward to it :Dbb

Well, obviously. Do you think I could have ignored a prompt like that if it wasn't my own? XD (Although someone else posted the possibly drunken Nakai/Tsuyoshi NC-17 prompt, which I'm still mulling over.) OMG YES PLEASE DO WRITE THEM :DDDD Heck, even if wasn't my prompt you know I am all for more NakaTsu :3

...although, you did already answer another prompt of mine ♥

[identity profile] dictionarysays.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, I figured as much. And you're just the biggest NakaTsu shipper I know, so if it wasn't you, I woulda been surprised. P: But oooh. I'm going to be an enabler myself and say: YOU WOULD SLAY DRUNKEN NAKAI/TSUYOSHI SO GOOD~ PLEASE? 8DD Baaah, yanno, I started your first NT prompt, then didn't like what I had and stopped, then started the AU one really just came up with a title, 3 sentences, and smth like a plot before giving up on that too. But One Day! Not necessarily, but.. eventually? :DD

You were the Kim/Tsu one too? I apologize for the utter lack of ACTUAL Kim/Tsu in it. xDD

Well, for a while - a long time ago - I declared every week to be the week of a different pairing. "This week is Nakai/Tsuyoshi week! What do you like about the pairing? Pimp your favourite pics! Write fic!" That sort of thing. We didn't have so many members then though, so there weren't many actual participants. I did actually come up with bunnies for the pairing every single week - it just sometimes took me years to write them... and some of them never got written at all. ><

I actually thought though that you meant a sort of one off or annual competetition - like, "The 2011 SMAP fanworks awards!" with an icon section and awards like "Best Comedy Fic" and "Best PWP". But did you mean more a weekly challenge?

I am attracted to the sparkliness of awards but I also agree with the comment below that non-competitiveness is more inclusive. Hmm...

[identity profile] dictionarysays.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That really happened? That seems like such a good idea! I wish I was around then. :* But yeaah, without the participants, it goes stagnant. BUT! The meme you ran went really well, I was so excited about all the prompts and the ppl filling 'em! Admittedly, I think that encouraged this idea even more. &hearts

Yanno, at first? Yeah, that was the idea, smth that happened once kinda thing with diff categories, but the way our ideas are changing; it looks like we're leaning more towards a fic fest. So every few weeks or so? But we hadn't even though about other fanworks either! I think that's smth to consider too. 8DD

And yeaah, it's starting to look like awards might not be a part of it anymore, but if there were a way to include it somehow without it being too much of a hassle? It could probably work too.

[identity profile] ficofthegoblin.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
You know, now I come to think of it, I think that was actually on the old yahoogroup, in the long lost days of old (eg 5 years ago).

...we could do it again?

[identity profile] ficofthegoblin.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
OKAY, LET'S.

Combined with or separate from the original ficfest/contest/prompt thing?

[identity profile] dictionarysays.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. It could totally work either way, but I'm just thinking. For the sake of keeping things general for the ficfest/thing especially with the pairing concerns, would it be better to just make it a smapxslash thing?

[identity profile] ficofthegoblin.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'll do pairing-themed weeks on smapxslash, while you start a separate comm for the contest/prompt thingy.

...wait, is that what you were suggesting? I got confused.
We could put your thing on smapxslash, you know, unless you think it would be better to make it non-slash-specific, or you think it would be less confusing that way.

Possible names for possible separate comm:
- promptsmap
- smapsuggest
- smapxchallenge
- smap_charenji
- smapxcharenji

[identity profile] dictionarysays.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't mean to spam you, ahaha, but figured I should ask you if you had any name suggestions for the ficfest's comm? I'm thinking of making it very soon and the only ideas I have so far are 5x20 and like, ficfestpalooza.. :*

I WOULD TOTALLY APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS FROM YOUR END. &hearts I've asked heretic and coeur too, so I'm sure we all come up with smth we can agree with :DD
