This... was a hell of a gut-punch to deliver with NO WARNING. AARRRGHHH.

That said, it was bloody riveting.

So many things pierce my heart. Goro's bitten nails; Nakai's crestfallen look; Shingo's guilt at being too wrapped up in his own grief to fully comprehend the others'.

It's obvious from your treatment of the public memorial that you've seen them upset before - when Mori left, when Goro returned. I really appreciate the verisimilitude that lends, when you have Kimura stoic and Nakai bawling.

I also can't help but be moved and passionately, miserably grateful for the physical affection that they all share. The palm-kissing - could that have been Goro? - was particularly beautiful, but even that was outdone by the final scene, in which they are collapsed together, comforting each other, on the floor. Does it make sense if I say I found it incredibly romantic, but in a platonic way? Like, pure love.

One last thing - when I was in the middle of this, I was struck by the terrible idea that maybe he really had died and I didn't know it. Despite the sheer illogicality of this, the thought genuinely worried me for several long moments.

YOU SEE WHAT YOU DO TO US, YOU CRUEL PERSON.
